[Motmot] using Basler 620f with Fview

Dear Niall,

The Basler firewire cameras are supported on linux using the libdc1394
library and I can assure you that it works fine under Ubuntu, as this
has been a primary configuration we've used for years. (See the "backend
status" section of
http://code.astraw.com/projects/motmot/libcamiface.html .)

Recently, Dave Benson has been working on a Basler backend using
Basler's pylon library. We have been testing this with Basler's GigE
cameras, where it is working fine under Ubuntu. Dave wrote the backend
in a way that should work with their firewire cameras, too, but we
haven't tested this, nor have we attempted to get it working on Windows.
Therefore, from a theoretical perspective, running the firewire cameras
on Windows using the development version of libcamiface (this has not
yet made it into an official release) should work. But, as Yogi Berra
said, "In theory there is no difference between theory and practice. In
practice there is." -- I'd be surprised if there weren't some issues.

Anyhow, I hope this information helps, and I would be happy to
incorporate any changes necessary to support your desired configuration.
